History Brought to Life

For the children in your family, a “Remarkable Lives” TV film, starring their Grandparents or Parents, will bring bygone times - and their real family history - to life in a way that school textbooks never can or will.

Rotary dial telephones… the old currency of pounds, shillings and pence… playground games of ‘marbles’ or ‘hopscotch’… walking over to a TV set to change channels… taking films to the chemist to get them ‘developed’ … winding a wristwatch…. Children’s ‘sweetie’ cigarettes…. conscription for National Service… Never having takeaway meals delivered… finishing your meal before leaving the table … black and white TV … Raking the ash from an open fire grate that heated your house…Paper maps to find your way in the car… Renting a film from the video store… (and paying a fee for returning it late) …LP records and tangled cassette tapes…

So many experiences that children today may struggle to understand. And that’s before they learn that Granddad’s first job paid £8.32 per week, that he met Grandmother on a weekly date to see the latest film in a one-screen cinema before eating fish-and-chips wrapped in newspaper… and paid for in cash.

For the Children

Bringing the past to life

Bringing history to life

A Remarkable Lives film offers more than just the chance of sharing irreplaceable family anecdotes, and albums of family pictures.  This documentary television format takes children on an educational journey through their family’s recent past and helps shape their personal development in so many ways. Most kids know little other than the brushstroke headlines of their parents’ or grandparents’ lives.  But a Remarkable Lives production is not merely another TV show competing for your children’s attention – it is a show which stars their Mum and Dad, or their beloved Nanny and Granddad. Even more appealing… they may be in it themselves… and everyone wants to see themselves on TV.

Family Role Models

Family Role Models

Amidst the educational demands of school life, and the peer pressures of social media, it’s easy for children to lose sight of the role models they could be following within their own family.  Understanding the careers and accomplishments of their own parents or grandparents can inspire big dreams and higher goals for their own future.  Equally, learning of the challenges and obstacles their closest family have faced, but overcome, builds resilience and determination, empathy across the generational divide, and strengthens the bonds which bind all families together.

I want to Tell You A Story

I want to Tell You A Story

Everybody loves a good story, and for children, this is a story with the greatest meaning of all: the tale of their own family history, told by those they love and respect the most. Hearing a relative’s own story of times-gone-by and the way life was lived in an older generation’s childhood can bring history to life in a way that no classroom or museum visit can match. How much did Granddad earn in his first ever weekly paypacket? Where did parents meet in the days before dating on the internet? How did ANYBODY survive without a mobile phone, when a pocketful of pennies was needed for the phone box, before one pushed that all-important “Button A”?

“I love Grandad but until I saw his film on the television, I didn’t know what a remarkable life he’d led. He’s even more special than I knew.”
